POW/MIA Recognition Day

Remembering the Forgotten National POW/MIA Recognition Day September 21, 2012
Most of us probably remember those Chuck Norris Missing in Action movies about the hidden POW’s of Vietnam and numerous other movies and books including my own “Forgotten Soldiers” book.  While books and movies provide entertainment and can draw attention to an issue or cause, there is still the true life reality for the POW’s, the Missing, and for their families.

The third Friday of September each year is designated as National POW/MIA Recognition Day. With the passage of time and national focus during the past decade on what has developed into a worldwide War, it has become an easy task for many Americans to Forget about a time before 9/11, and Forget about those who were POW’s and those who went Missing in the Cold War and previous Wars.
Each year families of the missing remember their lost loved ones while every day others continue to make efforts to give those families closure through recovery operations conducted by the personnel at JPAC (Joint Prisoners of War, Missing in Action Accounting Command).

For most Americans JPAC is an unheard of acronym with an unknown mission of trying to recover the missing in places like Vietnam, Laos, Korea, Burma, throughout Europe, Russia, and around the world.

The JPAC and other websites have numerous fact sheets and data about the POW/MIA’s and effort to answer questions about what happened to them.

The families of the missing and many of us have continued to make efforts keep the memory of the POW/MIA’s alive.  The National Alliance of Families  and The National League of POW/MIA Families  are just two of the organizations that make extensive efforts to maintain and create awareness of the POW/MIA issue and the pledge to never forget, and remember “You Are Not Forgotten”

Please Remember our POW/MIA’s and share the message.
